Everyday Spending, Lasting Impact: Why Sports Partners with easyfundraising.

Across sport and physical activity, organisations are being asked to achieve more.

They are keeping people active, supporting physical and mental wellbeing, tackling isolation, creating opportunities for children and young people and helping communities become healthier and better connected.

Much of this work is delivered against a difficult financial backdrop. The cost of facilities, equipment, insurance, transport, energy, and workforce development continues to place pressure on organisations of all sizes. Community clubs and voluntary groups feel that pressure particularly sharply, but the challenge extends throughout the sector.

That is why Why Sports has agreed to a new partnership with easyfundraising.

Creating value from everyday activity.

easyfundraising enables organisations to receive donations when their supporters shop online with participating retailers.

Members, participants, parents, volunteers and supporters begin their online purchase through the easyfundraising website or app. The retailer then donates to their chosen organisation without adding anything to the purchase price.

Thousands of retailers participate, covering everyday purchases such as groceries, travel, clothing, homeware, holidays, insurance and equipment. Registration is free, organisations do not need to be registered charities, and easyfundraising provides tools and prepared materials to help them introduce the opportunity to their supporters.

It will not replace grants, sponsorship, public investment or sustainable commercial income—nor should it. However, it can provide an additional source of unrestricted funding that continues alongside other fundraising activity.

That flexibility matters. Small amounts accumulated consistently can help meet the practical costs that determine whether an activity can continue, remain affordable or reach more people.

A small action can make a meaningful difference.

Wellingborough Whitworth U14’s provides a powerful example.

Faced with increasing expenditure on pitches, training facilities, kit and equipment, the team wanted to generate more income without increasing monthly costs for parents.

With around 40 supporters using easyfundraising, the team raised almost £3,400 in under 12 months. That money helped provide essential equipment and supported a memorable team visit to a tournament at Norwich City’s training ground. Crucially, it also helped the club avoid increasing its monthly fees.

The success was not built upon a single major donation. It came from members of the club’s community turning purchases they were already making into regular contributions.

Other organisations have used the funding differently. Adaptive Snowsports Aldershot, a volunteer-led club supporting adults and children with disabilities and additional needs, has raised more than £3,500 through online shopping. The income has helped the organisation invest in specialist equipment and volunteer training while keeping membership affordable.

These examples demonstrate an important point: relatively simple fundraising can produce outcomes that extend far beyond the money raised.

It can mean better equipment, more confident volunteers, lower participation costs, greater inclusion and opportunities that may otherwise have been lost.

An opportunity for the wider sector.

This partnership is relevant to more than individual sports clubs.

Community organisations, voluntary groups and eligible privately run organisations can explore whether easyfundraising could create an additional income stream for their work.

National governing bodies, Active Partnerships, leisure organisations and other strategic partners can also play an important role. By sharing the opportunity across their networks, they can help hundreds of local organisations access another practical form of support.

No single funding solution will answer every challenge facing sport and physical activity. A resilient organisation usually needs a balanced mix of public funding, earned income, commercial partnerships, sponsorship, fundraising and community support. easyfundraising can become one part of that mix.

Supporting the organisations that support our communities.

At Why Sports, we see every day how much skill, energy and commitment exists across the sector. We also see how often important organisations operate with limited resources and little financial security.

Their work contributes to healthier lives, stronger communities and a more active nation. It creates belonging, develops confidence, reduces isolation and gives people opportunities to participate, volunteer and connect.

That work deserves sustained support.

Our partnership with easyfundraising is one practical way in which we can help organisations strengthen their income and continue making a difference.

If your organisation could benefit—or if you represent a network of clubs, groups or local delivery partners—we encourage you to explore the opportunity and share it with others.
