National Scale. Professional Standards. Community Impact.

Hi there! If you don’t know us already, we’re EMD UK, the national governing body for group exercise and we are very proud to return as headline sponsor of the Why Sports 2026 Conference.
As the National Governing Body (NGB) for Group Exercise, we oversee a regulated workforce of 18,000 instructors. We provide the infrastructure, quality assurance, and professional standards that turn fitness classes into vital community health interventions.
Alongside this we are committed to strengthening the relationship between physical activity and healthcare professionals to improve the health and wellbeing of the nation.
If you’d like to find out more about how EMD UK supports health, wellbeing and national priorities, visit us at our stand in the main networking zone.
Our CEO, Dan Rees, will be in attendance, along with our Head of Workforce, Sue Wilkie; Chief Operating Officer, Shelley Meyern; and Head of Finance, Amanda Webb.

How can we work together?
As the National Governing Body for Group Exercise, we support a regulated workforce of 18,000 instructors delivering safe, inclusive and effective group exercise nationwide.
Our instructors work in community settings, recovery and referral programmes, and with people managing long-term health conditions, helping to reduce health inequalities and support preventative health.
